911 & Emergency Calling

Effective [Effective Date] · Version 2026-10-23.2

Linea is an internet phone service. 911 calls made through it work differently from, and may not work as reliably as, 911 from a traditional landline or mobile phone. Please read this page and share it with everyone on your team. Keep another way to reach 911, such as a mobile phone, available at all times.

When 911 works

  • 911 can be dialed from the Linea app on a number that has outgoing calls turned on and a registered 911 address. Numbers without a registered address can't make outgoing calls at all.
  • Dial 911 directly. No prefix (like 9) is needed, and 911 calls are never blocked by billing, plan limits, or usage caps.
  • Your call goes to the emergency center for the registered address, along with that address and your callback number.
  • You can dial 933 to hear the address on file and confirm it's correct, without reaching an emergency center.

When 911 may not work or may be delayed

  • You've moved. If you use Linea somewhere other than the registered address, emergency responders may be sent to the wrong place. Tell the dispatcher where you are.
  • Power or internet outage. If your internet connection, router, or device loses power or connectivity, you can't call 911 through Linea.
  • The app isn't ready. If your browser is closed, you're signed out, your microphone is blocked, or your account is suspended or canceled, you can't call 911 through Linea.
  • Address just changed. A new or updated address can take time to reach emergency systems. Until it does, calls may route using the old address.
  • Network congestion or problems with our providers may delay or drop calls, or cause the dispatcher not to see your number or address.
  • Calls forwarded to a mobile phone are handled by that phone's own carrier. Dialing 911 from that phone uses the mobile carrier's 911, not Linea.

Keep your address current

You confirm a 911 address for each number when you turn on outgoing calls, and you can change it anytime in Numbers. Use the street address and suite or floor where the phone is actually used. If people use Linea from home or several locations, give each person their own number with their own address.

Not emergency services

  • The AI receptionist, voicemail, missed-call text-back, and business texting are not emergency services and can't contact 911 for anyone.
  • Text-to-911 is not supported. Call 911 instead.

Emergency call alerts

When anyone on your account dials 911, Linea emails your account owners and admins with who called, from which number, and the registered address, as required by Kari's Law, so someone on site can help responders find the caller.

Your acknowledgment

Before turning on outgoing calls for a number, an owner or admin confirms they've read these limitations. We keep a record of that confirmation. You agree to tell everyone who uses Linea on your account about them. Liability for 911 is limited as described in the Terms of Service, to the extent the law allows.
